Article Icon 1Report: Texas Faces Major Home Shortage

Texas needs to build 306,000 homes to meet growing demand and reduce high housing costs, according to a report from the Texas Comptroller's office.

Despite leading the nation in building permits since 2008, construction hasn't kept up with population growth, especially in urban areas.

Between 2020 and 2023, Dallas-Fort Worth led all U.S. metros in population growth, fueling an affordability crisis as median home prices surged 50%.

The report highlights zoning, land-use regulations, and institutional investor ownership as barriers to affordability, urging lawmakers to address these issues in the 2025 legislative session.

Article Icon 1Assistant Principal Blinded by Student Attack

Candra Rogers, the assistant principal at Collins Intermediate School in Corsicana, was left blind in one eye after a middle schooler threw a clothes hanger at her face during a classroom altercation earlier this month.

The injury was severe enough that paramedics decided she needed to be airlifted to a hospital, and it may result in the permanent loss of her eye.

The student responsible was taken into police custody, and the case has been referred to the Navarro County District Attorney’s Office.

During a Tuesday press conference at the school—her first remarks since the attack—Rogers expressed concern about the safety of educators, criticizing Gov. Greg Abbott and the state legislature for not increasing public school funding for managing challenging students.

A Murphy USA gas station in Midland accidentally loaded diesel fuel into regular gasoline pumps last week, causing extensive mechanical issues for unsuspecting drivers.

The mix-up left many vehicles stranded and prompted a flood of repair requests at local auto shops.

Mechanics report having to drain fuel tanks, replace fuel lines, and in some cases, change entire engines due to the severity of the damage.

Murphy's has indicated willingness to cover repair costs, with affected car owners advised to request full service report forms for reimbursement.
