Canada Announces Snap Election

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Sunday called a snap election for April 28, just nine days after taking office, citing the need to address Canada's ongoing trade tensions with the United States.

Carney has described the situation as the "most significant crisis of our lifetimes," as recent U.S. tariff proposals raise concerns about cross-border trade.

His main challenger, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, is running on a platform of Canadian self-reliance. Other contenders include Jagmeet Singh of the left-leaning New Democratic Party.

Polls currently show the Liberals leading the Conservatives 42% to 37%.

Americans Snack Less As Prices Soar

Americans are snacking less, according to packaged food giants like General Mills, J.M. Smucker Co., and Campbell Soup Company, all of which reported sales declines of 3% to 7% in the most recent quarter.

Executives attribute the slowdown to inflation and high prices, as consumers pull back from sweet and salty snacks that have seen average price increases of 22% since 2020.

Analysts say that while weight-loss drugs like Ozempic may play a small role in the decline, they suggest that product changes and price cuts may be on the horizon.

Fire Breaks Out at Disney World

A fire broke out Saturday at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, sending a plume of smoke over a theme park busy with spring breakers.

Park officials confirmed that a walk-in cooler caught fire backstage at the France Pavilion, but the cause of the blaze is not yet known.
