| Trump, Harris Battle Through DebateThe first presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris Tuesday night was often contentious, with both candidates often turning to personal attacks. The debate lasted about 1 hour and 45 minutes and on several occasions, ABC moderator David Muir argued with Trump over his statements while Harris watched. Both nominees attempted to outline their futures for America with Harris focusing on the middle class and Trump on rebuilding the economy and national security. Harris tried to distance herself from President Biden while describing her potential presidency as a change agent that would move the country forward. Trump countered by highlighting the numerous failed policies under the Biden administration. In the closing arguments, Harris reiterated her focus on the future and the middle class, leading Trump to ask, “Why hasn’t she done it?” while in office for the past 3.5 years. | Big Fires Hit Southern CaliforniaSouthern California is ablaze, with more than 100,000 acres scorched in eight separate fires as of Tuesday. Here’s a map and list of the major fires. The largest, the Line Fire, has burned over 27,000 acres in San Bernardino County, about 60 miles outside Los Angeles, and was only 5% contained as of Tuesday afternoon, according to fire officials. Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency this weekend, and evacuation orders have been issued to thousands of residents of communities in the county. Here's video of the blaze. Meanwhile, the smaller Airport Fire in Orange County has burned over 9,000 acres and is 0% contained. Firefighting efforts have been complicated by triple-digit temperatures, a small earthquake, and thunderstorm winds, causing erratic fire behavior. | Tyreek Hill Bodycam Video Sparks ControversyMiami Police released dramatic bodycam footage showing the confrontation between police and Dolphins players Tyreek Hill and Calais Campbell before Sunday's season-opening game. The video of the traffic stop sparked national controversy. Hill's agent called the treatment "horrendous" and demanded the officer's firing. Officer Danny Torres, a 27-year veteran, was placed on administrative duty pending investigation. According to reports, Hill was driving a black 2018 McLaren Sunday morning when officers stopped him for speeding. After a brief detention, Hill was cited $179 for careless driving and $129 for failing to wear a seat belt. One prominent sports analyst placed blame on both parties, saying the officer “went overboard” and Hill was “uncooperative.”
