Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has threatened to sue Bexar and Harris counties if they follow through on plans to mail voter registration forms to “unverified recipients” who might not be eligible to participate in the upcoming election.

The counties are considering using taxpayer funds to pay third-party vendors to send voter registration applications to residents not registered to vote, which Paxton argues could result in felons and non-citizens being added to the rolls.

“It is more important than ever that we maintain the integrity of our voter rolls and ensure only eligible voters decide our elections,” Paxton said.

Houston icon Jim "Mattress Mack" McInvale was hospitalized over the weekend after having "a little trouble with cognitive things,” causing concern throughout the community and prompting the outspoken businessman to reassure his fans that he would “be all right.”

McInvale revealed he felt nauseated on Friday and missed his exit for work for the first time in 43 years on Saturday.

A mobile stroke unit transported him to St. Luke’s Hospital, where doctors treated him for cellulitis and are still determining what caused his symptoms before his discharge on Monday night.

While providing updates from his hospital bed, he promoted the extended Labor Day Sale at his Gallery Furniture store, which he founded in 1981 after attending high school in Dallas and playing football at UT and UNT.

Article Icon 1Dennis Quaid Stars in "Reagan"

Houston-born actor Dennis Quaid stars in a newly released film about Ronald Reagan that surpassed box office expectations in its first weekend, earning $7.4 million to rank fourth in estimated ticket sales.

Directed by Sean McNamara, known for “Soul Surfer” and “Miracle Season,” the biopic examines the life of the 40th president from his childhood to the White House, focusing on his fight against communism in Hollywood and the Soviet Union.

While “Reagan” has been panned by critics—one reviewer dismissed it as a “MAGA-tinged hagiography”—it has a 98% audience score on the movie rating site Rotten Tomatoes.

The film also generated controversy when Facebook limited its advertising prior to its release, which Quaid and the film's marketers attributed to censorship.
