If you've ever had a snack expecting it to be rejuvenating, but ended up crashing on the couch instead.
Trust me, I know exactly what you mean.
This is Marshall, co-founder of The GFB, we haven't met yet.
Just thought I'd take this time to thank you for stopping by and tell you about how going gluten-free had an impact on me over the years.
For most of my life, I had a generally healthy lifestyle from the outside but for some odd reason...
It felt like my body was falling apart on the inside.
It was hard to find an answer to my questions as opposed to today where a wealth of information can be found with a click of a button.
I even had a doctor look me straight in the face and say you're "fine" followed up with "have a nice day".
But I knew I wasn't "fine" and I wasn't going to "have a nice day" until I got the answers to my questions.
And after seeing several other doctors…
I was finally diagnosed with celiac disease, which explained all the aches and joint pains I was getting over the years.
Anyway, it turned out to be a blessing, because when I had to go gluten-free...
The difference in my physical health was like night and day.
Up to that point, I've never felt better.
But now I had to figure out how to maintain a gluten-free style while constantly on the go.
Back then, finding "gluten-free" food was like finding a needle in a haystack inside a haystack.
Because not only did I have to figure out what I wanted on the menu was gluten-free or not...
It was in a completely foreign language that I had no clue how to read...
And then one day on a work trip to China, midway through my third horrible-tasting protein bar of the day...
The thought that started it all, struck me.
"I'm tired of hating my food. I can do way better than this."
So, what does one do when they want to start a food business with zero baking skills?
You believe in your mission and put one foot in front of the other.
And so we started renting space in a gluten-free bakery where we were making, on a good day, 2,000 bars...
Fast forward a decade later, and we're now a team of 50 and our products grace the shelves of around 11,000 stores across the U.S. and Canada.
Quite the journey if I say so myself.
So if you're at a crossroads, considering a new job, a move, or starting a business, ask yourself -
"Do I believe in my mission?"
I certainly did...
And even though I had zero culinary or baking skills to start with.
I just believed in my mission and put one foot in front of the other.
And that's what I want you to take away from my journey today.
Here's to a future filled with better days and even better snacks.
Thanks for reading,
