Stocks Plunge After Tariffs Unveiled

U.S. markets took a steep dive Thursday in the first trading session after President Trump announced sweeping new tariffs.

The Dow dropped 1,679 points, the S&P 500 fell 4.8%, and the Nasdaq tumbled nearly 6%, marking the worst day for stocks since 2020 and wiping over $3 trillion

The sell-off hit companies with global supply chains hardest: Nike sank 14%, Apple 9%, Amazon 9%, and Meta nearly 9%.

Trump's plan includes a 10% baseline tariff on all imports and steeper rates on several nations—like 54% total on China. See the list of tariffs by country here.

K-12 Schools Face Funding Loss Over DEI

The Trump administration is requiring K-12 schools to certify that they have ended diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs or risk losing federal funding.

A letter sent Thursday gives state education chiefs 10 days to confirm compliance with what the administration calls "antidiscrimination obligations" under federal law.

The directive builds on a February letter to universities and follows the Supreme Court's 2023 decision on affirmative action.

Big Sur Coast Highway in California came out on top in a list of the most beautiful scenic byways in every state, snagging the crown for its ocean cliffs and that famous stretch of Highway 1.

There's plenty of heartland beauty in the mix. Utah's Scenic Byway 12 at No. 2, a 123-mile route through red rock canyons and ancient fossil beds in the heart of canyon country.
