Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned Tuesday, a day after appearing before angry legislators in Congress to review the assassination attempt on former President Trump. Cheatle has faced calls to step down by both Republicans and Democrats since July 13, when a gunman managed to fire multiple shots at Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, striking his ear. The pressure increased after lawmakers said she failed to answer their questions during Monday’s hearing. In her resignation letter, Cheatle took “full responsibility” for the lapsed security.
