Texas Supreme Court Sides With Citizen Group

The Texas Supreme Court ordered the City of Dallas to remove three of its proposed charter amendments from the November ballot, finding they conflicted with citizen-led initiatives and would mislead voters.

The three amendments—requiring the city to increase police pay and hire more officers, tying the city manager’s pay to performance, and allowing citizens to sue city officials if they break the law—closely mirrored those brought by the advocacy group Dallas HERO.

However, the city's versions included language clarifying that the council would have the final say on how to allocate money.

Dallas HERO’s proposed amendments will stay on the ballot as drafted. After the ruling, the group’s executive director said the “city council’s duplicitous attempt to thwart the will of the people was reckless, unlawful, and disgraceful.”

El Paso Hotel Shut Down Over Gang Activity Claims

A state judge temporarily shuttered the Gateway Hotel in downtown El Paso on Monday following allegations of criminal activity, including housing members of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang.

The El Paso County Attorney's Office filed a lawsuit citing 693 police calls for service related to assaults, gang involvement, and suspected prostitution since 2018.

Hotel owner Howard Yun was ordered to evacuate all residents by yesterday morning, while community organizations will offer relocation assistance. See photos here.

The case has drawn national attention, with tech mogul Elon Musk commenting on social media about the alleged gang presence.

Texas Hotels Shine in MICHELIN Key Awards

The MICHELIN Guide revealed the latest additions to its list of top hotels throughout the United States, with 20 properties in Texas earning recognition.

Austin leads the way for the Lone Star State with the Two Key Commodore Perry Estate and six One Key properties, such as the Austin Proper Hotel and Hotel Saint Cecilia.

San Antonio's Hotel Emma and Fort Worth's Bowie House also received a prestigious Two Key rating, while luxury accommodations in Dallas, Houston, El Paso, and Galveston were also acknowledged.

MICHELIN praised these Texas establishments for their luxurious amenities, distinctive character, and ability to showcase the state's renowned hospitality.

9/18 Deadline: Invest As They Turn Waste Asphalt Shingles Into a $4.4B Revenue Opportunity
