The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that Texas could use a new congressional district map that could add up to five GOP seats in Congress in next year's midterm election. By an apparent 6-3 vote, with the three liberal justices dissenting, the court granted an emergency request from Texas officials to block a lower court ruling ordering the state to return to the district lines adopted in 2021. The unsigned order said that Texas is "likely to succeed on the merits of its claim," including that the lower court "failed to honor the presumption of legislative good faith" when assessing the state legislature's motives. The high court's ruling also noted recent Democrat-led redistricting in California as well in a signal that the court might avoid interfering with efforts in other states as well. | Netflix to Buy HBO, Warner Bros. Films Netflix agreed to buy Warner Bros. Discovery's film studio and HBO Max, ending a bidding war for the entertainment giant that included Paramount Skydance and Comcast. The companies said the cash-and-stock deal is valued at $72 billion in equity value, and an estimated $82.7 billion enterprise value overall. The sale excludes Warner Bros.' cable TV holdings and Discovery Global, which includes Discovery Networks, CNN, TNT, and other channels. Friday's announcement drew apprehension on antitrust growing from Republicans and Democrats, with the Trump administration reporting "heavy skepticism." Movie theater owners also protested over fears that Netflix could overturn conventional theatrical distribution, with an eye toward moving films toward streaming instead of into movie houses. | Football Titles On the Line Four major college football titles are up for grabs today in games that will determine the champions of the SEC, Big Ten, ACC, and Big 12 conferences.
