It's safe to say Harbaugh feels comfortable hitching his wagon to Jaxson Dart, the electric quarterback out of Ole Miss that provided a jolt to Big Blue's offense after taking over the starting job from Russell Wilson. Dart showed his ability to use his legs and create plays out of structure; what he's yet to prove is whether he can protect himself on said plays. Of course, Harbaugh coached Lamar Jackson, a quarterback who is elite at both escaping the pocket for positive yardage while also finding his way out of bounds or away from unnecessary hits. Dart isn't the slippery athlete Jackson is, but there's no doubt Harbaugh will emphasize protecting the Giants' prized asset.
Hamstringing Dart's development as a passer was the absence of Malik Nabers, who tore his ACL in Week 4 trying to haul in a Dart pass. But if he's back healthy, he's a certified playmaker that will make Dart's life a lot easier, and probably the most dynamic receiver Harbaugh has coached…ever? The Giants will also hope for a quick return to health for Cam Skattebo, their bruising running back who suffered a gnarly ankle injury in Week 8, ending his debut season early.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Giants gave us the seventh-most points per game in 2025 and couldn't stop opposing rushing attacks at all. The run defense needs strengthening, but their well-stocked collection of pass rushers is enticing. Brian Burns had a monster 2025, finishing with 16.5 sacks and 22 tackles-for-loss, good for second and third in the entire NFL respectively.
Abdul Carter finished his rookie season with a modest four sacks (and too many disciplinary incidents) but advanced metrics such as ESPN's pass rush win rate already rank the Penn State product among the NFL's best edge players. He'll be fine. And though Kayvon Thibodeaux hasn't yet lived up to his draft status, he's back on his fifth-year option in 2026, and there aren't many teams with a third rusher as dangerous as Thibodeaux. Whoever Harbaugh hires to run the defense should have a fun time deploying these weapons.
Roster depth is an issue for the Giants, and holdover GM Joe Schoen's track record in both free agency and the draft is spotty. Harbaugh mitigated the latter worry by appealing to Giants ownership for more power, likely as a demand in exchange for taking the job and not a request.

Only seven players were targeted more than Wan'Dale Robinson in 2025, which isn't exactly a plus for the Giants offense. Still, he was productive, eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark for the first time. The issue is Robinson will be a free agent, and is likely to garner plenty of interest around the league.
After that…not great Bob. WR Darius Slayton disappointed despite the opportunity with Nabers sidelined. TE Theo Johnson flashed his potential as a piece in the passing game, but also struggled with drops. With the no. 5 pick in the draft, Harbaugh and Co. should find someone to make Dart's life easier. | Who will win the NBA's Western Conference? | | | | |
