On a golf buggy tour led by the Old Baldy Foundation, visitors can explore the stories behind the founding of the oldest lighthouse in the state, the pirates who fought the Battle of the Sandbar, and the wild pig hunters who roamed the island in the 20th century. Outdoorsy types will be equally at home on this island that has banned passenger cars since the early 1980s. Instead, Bald Head Island offers opportunities for stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, kiteboarding, fishing, surfing, and cycling. In summer, you can also walk to the Bald Head Island Conservancy to see loggerhead sea turtles lay their eggs.
