While the rest of America gets mail via trucks, planes, and drones, there's one place where the postal service still relies on mules plodding down a dusty trail. Welcome to Supai Village at the bottom of the Grand Canyon - the most remote community in the continental United States. Supai is home to the Havasupai Tribe and is only accessible by an 8-mile hike, helicopter, or mule train. There are no roads leading in or out. So when the U.S. Postal Service needs to deliver mail, they load it onto mules and send them down the canyon trail. Every day except Sunday, a mule train carries mail, packages, and supplies down 2,000 feet into the canyon. The journey takes about 4 hours each way. If you order something from Amazon Prime, congratulations - it's arriving by mule. Need to mail a letter? A mule is your mailman. The mule train has been making this delivery since 1896, making it the longest continuously operating mule-based postal route in America. In an age of same-day delivery and robot mail carriers, there's something weirdly comforting about knowing mules are still faithfully trudging down the Grand Canyon with your mail!
