Snow began falling in parts of Texas on Friday as huge swaths of the South entered what's forecast to be a full weekend of severe winter weather, with temperatures dropping into the single digits in parts of the state and power outages expected.

Hundreds of flights were canceled at state airports as winter storm warnings took effect, running through Monday in some areas.

Dallas and other cities in North Texas expect the most severe ice conditions, and areas like San Antonio received alert upgrades in expectation of icy weather as well. Here's a forecast map for Texas and surrounding states.

While officials are urging residents to stay off the roads, Texas transportation officials made road preparations for those who do travel.

A shooting at a Dallas park left Woodrow Wilson High School student Wornan Padilla Garcia dead on Thursday, and Dallas police have charged a 16-year-old classmate with murder.

Dallas Fire Rescue responded to a gunshot wound report at around 3:45 p.m. Thursday, and units descended on the parking lot where the incident occurred, across the street from the high school.

Garcia, a senior on the school's soccer team, was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said three students were involved in the incident, but have yet to confirm details.

A police source told WFAA Dallas that the students were playing with the gun when it discharged.

The New York Stock Exchange's expansion into Texas, dubbed NYSE Texas or Y'all Street, now has over 100 companies listed, reaching a major milestone less than a year after opening.

NYSE President Lynn Martin said the expansion allows companies to take advantage of Texas' pro-business climate while still benefitting from the safety and stability of Wall Street.

President Trump weighed in on Y'all Street's success, saying it is "an unbelievably bad thing for New York."

NYSE Texas, based in Dallas, is intended to better serve companies in the South and Southwest. It launched in March 2025 and continues to operate alongside the main exchange.
